Head of a Woman,1982, is one the earliest etchings from Lucian Freud’s return to printmaking, having abandoned the process for over 30 years. Teaming up with Therry Wilson at Palm Tree Editions, a suit of 19 etchings were initially made in 1982 to coinside with the release of the book Lucian Freud written by his friend and fellow artist Lawrence Gowing. The publisher Thames and Hudson printed 100 copies of a special edition which was to include a single etching by Freud. Four works from the suite of 19 were selected, one of which was Head of a Woman. Each was printed in an edition of 25.
