Anthony Hill
(1930 - 2020)
Born in 1930 in London, Anthony Hill attended St. Martins School of Art and the Central school of Art and Crafts, London. Initially influenced by Dadaism and Surrealism, Hill went on to experiment with collage. His first group exhibition was at the I.C.A. in 1950 entitled Aspects of British Art. With a number of artists including Victor Pasmore, Mary Martin and Kenneth Martin he founded the Constructivist Group. They held a number of exhibitions, their first being in 1951. From 1951-2 he went to Paris, meeting Picabia, Kupka and Vantongerloo. Hill abandoned painting, making his first relief in 1954. A retrospective of his work was held at the Hayward Gallery, London in 1983. A one man show Anthony HillWorks 1954- 82 was held at Austin/Desmond Fine Art, London in 2003
